Conscious Sedation - Make yourself comfortable at Cloud 9 Dental

At our dentist in Claremont, we understand your concerns and strive to make every dental visit as comfortable as possible.

As a mother of two, I know exactly what it’s like to try and get your children to their dental check-up. It can be a rather daunting task, especially when they are frightened of the whole idea.

Specialising in working with children and all aspects of paediatric dentistry, we have made it our mission to make dentist visits for kids not only pleasant but also fun.

Conscious sedation

We understand that often, minor procedures may seem more major than they are, and they can cause quite a bit of anxiety.

Therefore, we offer an array of sedation dentistry, including pre-medication and topical anaesthesia, as well as “painless injections.”

Each is performed safely and professionally, in-house and with over 10 years of success stories to share with you, we promise you are in safe hands.

Oral Sedation

The first type of sedation we offer is oral sedation.

  • Usually, we use Dormicum at a low dose or Valerian, which is an antihistamine.
  • We also use Activan or mild homeopathic sedatives, which depends on the person and their state of health and level of anxiety.

This form of sedation is used all the time and we have had very good results with the oral sedation.

IV Sedation (Conscious Sedation)

Let’s be honest, going to the dentist can be a nerve-racking experience.

How many times have you wanted to just sleep right through your appointment? Well, fortunately for you, we have a solution called oral conscious sedation.

It’s termed “conscious” because you are still aware of where you are but you feel so relaxed that you are no longer concentrated on your surroundings.

For this conscious sedation, we bring in a specialist seditionist. anaesthetist

  • To ensure the sedation is absolutely pain-free, we make use of an anaesthetic plaster which numbs the skin.
  • After which, a very small IV line is painlessly inserted, and usually within a few minutes the patient will fall asleep. Throughout the procedure, the patient is breathing completely independently.
  • This form of sedation works extremely well for people who are fearful, or young and needing treatments like extractions, fillings or wisdom teeth removed.
  • The level of sedation depends on the age of the patient, but we usually put children into a much deeper sleep than adults.
  • There are no side effects and it wears off quickly afterwards.

General Anaesthesia

This form of sedation, is used when children or adults need to spend longer in the chair due to extensive dental procedures or severely impacted teeth.
